Desert Tent Camping in Tucson, AZ with Mountain Lions! | Carne Asada Camp & Cook
Join us for a shake down test of our new camping tent/gear out in the desert campground at Colossal Cave Mountain Park where the mountain lions are well awake in the middle of the night!

In this week’s adventure, we kick off our 2022 camping season with a shake down test of our new gear setup. We recently purchased a new tent (Carlsbad Dark Room Dome with Screen Room), 2 new cots (Trailhead II) and 2 self inflating camping pads from @Colemancampfire . We also used it as an opportunity to break in our new @LifetimeProductsAssembly 55 quart wheeled cooler! And not to forget our trusty @lodgecastiron Sportsman’s Grill.
We loaded all of our gear up, plus our dog Mowgli, into our 2000 Jeep Cherokee for a short trip to the nearby Colossal Cave Mountain Park, just outside of Tucson, AZ. This desert riparian area is full of trees and wildlife. A perfect hidden gem.
We setup camp and cracked open some drinks before making dinner: Carne Asada tacos with chiles toreados & refried beans! A delicious and fitting dinner for what would end up being an adventurous night ahead of us. We made our way into the tent for a few hours of sleep before being awoken at 4:30am to the sound of something screaming in agony right behind us. Startled awake, including Mowgli who began shaking in fear, we anxiously awaited to hear foot steps of an animal near our tent. Fortunately, nothing came near, or at least not that we heard… we got out the camera and while it was dark, we were still able to catch the audio. The haunting cries/screams of a mountain lion close by… Fortunately, the screams trailed off into the distance and our adrenaline came back down. A wild night to remember, we made our way back to bed.
In the morning (after sleeping in a bit thanks to our comfortable tent) we got up and made some coffee with the french press and some breakfast – a bacon, egg, potato, onion, and bell pepper scramble. Enjoy the camping ASMR 😉
After a successful and eventful trip (our packing list worked out great!) to Colossal Cave, we packed down and out back home.

Do you call this a desert 😂
That mountain lion smelled that carne asada from 5 miles away and was dissapointed you didn’t save any lol
Enjoyed your video! We’ve tried to camp at Colossal Cave before, but the road was washed out due to monsoon and they wouldn’t let us go back there. Looking forward to trying again sometime.
I have to be honest, this video was so relaxing and nice to watch! As always the presentation was on point! (especially those drone shots, damn those were nice) I’m going to have to try out your recipe for carne asada, as it made me hungry just watching you prepare it lol.
Those tacos looked 🔥
I’m looking to buy a cot. Could you give me more information on what you bought and how comfortable it is and sturdy? Thanks for the video really enjoyed it.

Enjoyed this video. We’ve also experienced a fox screaming at night while camping, which sounds similar to a screaming woman, very disturbing to hear in the middle of the night. Looks like you had a beautiful site for camping.
Nice couple ❤ 👌
